In re-creating The Surrey, we collaborated with acclaimed interior designer Lauren Rottet and paid special attention to maintaining the integrity of this history while modernizing what has become New York's most intimate address. Rottet's inspiration was a New York City townhouse passed down through the generations, the keeper of a lifetime of memories.

The hotel is located between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue, one block east of Central Park. It is therefore very close to the numerous museums and attractions of Manhattan's upper eastside. It is an easy walk to the Metropolitan, Frick, Guggenheim, Whitney, the Natural History Museum and other leading cultural centres. Because of its location it was easy to visit a museum and return to the hotel for a break before continuing with more sightseeing. 

You will feel safe walking around the neighbourhood at night and noted many others doing the same. For people who run for exercise, easy access to the wide sidewalks of 5th Avenue, the upper eastside and Central Park are a bonus.

Access to midtown and downtown is easy. It is a longish hike to Times Square and midtown but on a day that is not too hot it is a good way to see the city. There are many options for mass transit when you are tired or if it is too hot. There is good bus transportation on 5th Avenue & Madison Avenue. The closest subway lines are accessible on Lexington Ave. which is three blocks to the east. Cabs are available within minutes.

The moment you enter the hotel, you feel the friendly admosfer, The Surrey is heaven: already upon checking in, the reception staff succeeded to make you feel immediately most welcome. Everyone is so very nice! The hotel itself was clean, comfortable, quiet, and very pretty! 

The hotel location itself is just worth it (right across from the famous Carlyle). New York's finest shopping is right at your finger tip along with some wonderful restaurants. Right down stairs and even on the roof, you can enjoy Chef. Boloud's amazing cuisine at Bar Boloud or the roof top terrace. 

Comfy bed with high end Italian linens, great bathroom outfitted with waterworks hardware (the shower was one of the best!), and a great interior design. During your stay you will never once disappointed at all in the quality of the service. The ratings the Surrey gets do not lie one bit.

The room had beautiful baywindows with comfy cushions inviting you to settle down and watch the streetlife. However the street is very quiet at night, so you can leave the windows open at night, while this street is steps away from 5th Av.

All furniture in the room is very tasteful, with plenty of cushions, beautiful fabrics, a few picture books on the coffee table, etc. The bed is majestic: large, with a fantastic mattress, great duvet cushions and whatever you can you possibly wish for for a good night's sleep. The bathroom left nothing to desire, the toiletries were excellent. 

You have to check out the rooftop bar at the Surrey: it is really the cérise sur le gateau. It is very relaxing  and you experience David's recommended homemade lemonades (lime and basil, blueberry and mint, etc.. Great stunning views and is the ideal place to recuperate after a day of exploring.  The roof top garden offers a light meal service starting at noon. The garden is cozy and inviting, and the night view is likely very enjoyable. For dinner you want to go to Cafe Boloud, very nice with very good service. The view is exceptional, which can create easily a very memorable dinner night in New York.

The rooms are large, and exceptionally clean. The king bed is very comfortable and provided a very restful sleep, so much so that you want to linger there every morning; it will be difficult to drag yourself out of bed. The blackout roller blind helps to a restful sleep. The bathroom is very clean, spacious, and equipped with a large glass walled shower. The room is equipped with satellite TV with a large choice of television and radio channels.  The bathroom is large, two sinks and luxurious towels, the Pratesi robes are very nice and the Laura Tonatto shampoo, etc are a welcome addition. The shower has two separate heads, which will challenge you to take the longest showers ever.

Futhermore the Spa at the Surrey offers an exceptional service, which will garanteee you a very relaxing afternoon.

All in all the service, hotel and location is of a very high standard with the staff treating all customers as individuals, greeting with a genuine smile, is well worth a visit.
